Audiometry

An audiometry test is an examination that evaluates hearing function in terms of tone, balance, and sound intensity. It focuses on the functioning of the inner ear. The human ear is capable of perceiving sounds ranging from 20 to 20,000 Hertz (Hz). Additionally, it can hear sounds with an intensity starting from 20 decibels and up.
Audiometry involves various tests. Tone audiometry measures the softest and quietest sounds a person can hear at different pitches. To do this, the specialist uses an audiometer, which is a special machine that plays sounds through headphones that the patient wears while sitting inside a soundproof booth with a window.
